Howard Sterns Signs Off

After almost 20 years of radio, Howard Stern's long time running program will come to an end today. Stern opened up his radio show this morning with:
"Good morning, and welcome to the last show on terrestrial radio,"
As of January 9th Howard Stern and his clan will be available on "EH EH EH" oh I mean SIRIUS radio for $12.95. Right now that doesn't make much sense to the average radio listener. Why on earth would someone pay to hear radio when it's one of the things left in life that is free (that and air I suppose)? Yahoo News reports
Stern later planned a two-hour midtown Manhattan party to say goodbye to any loyal listeners who turned up and scores already had, despite a driving rainstorm. Stern planned to deliver an address to his radio fans, inishing up a quarter-century on terrestrial radio as arguably its most influential figure.
Sirius paid Stern $500 million for a 5 year contract. Since then, the number of Sirius subscribers jumped from 600,000 to more than 2.2 million (expected to hit 3 million by the end of the year).
